Vayu Brian Jameson

URS August 14, 2025

Vayu Brian Jameson, a brilliant leader of the Dances of Universal Peace and an originator of unique dances and zikrs passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at a veterans facility in Butte, Montana after an extended illness.

Vayu will be long remembered for his tremendous heart, kindness, sense of humor and twinkle in his eye. He brought a light touch and infectious rhythm to the Dances that was irresistable as well as profound. He empowered many new leaders of the Dances through training events and mentoring relationships. He served for decades on staff at Ruhaniat and DUP camps in the Pacific northwest and in Canada. Among his creations are the Unfolding Zikr, Somos El Barco, Om Asatoma and Dance of the Celestial Bodies.

Vayu is survived by his beloved wife and long-time partner in the Dances Subhana Star Jameson.

Ya Salaam, dear brother. We will miss you.

  1. Here was a beautiful being who offered so much service, heart and playfulness to everyone in his life. The Dances of Universal Peace were a natural medium for him. In that container many felt the loving creative intelligence that animated Vayu, and all of us in essence. We won’t forget him!

  2. This dear man stood in my kitchen in 1990 and said he could never stand up in front of people and talk! His devotion and perseverance for the Dances infused his life from the first time we attended them (on the second floor of a bar in Missoula in 1991) to the very end of his life. When he could no longer walk or speak he would thump out rhythms to the Dances we sang to him. His passing was as peaceful as he was, heart and soul.

  3. He led us on joyful trips down rivers with the salmon and on starships through the galaxies! I will cherish the time spent at camps with Vayu!

  4. Always a sparkle in his eyes and a light-heartedness that put everyone at ease, but in the midst of that also a great depth and capacity that encouraged me as I learned the art of dance leading. Many of Vayu’s dances are ones I frequently find myself drawn to offer. I’m most grateful to be able to access always a tincture of his presence.

  5. One of my most favorite human beings ever. He always brought peace, kindness, gentleness and humble presence. Just the thought of him, brings to heart and mind, smiles and chuckles, and a sense of deep connection with — love.
Once, in conversation, I mentioned that the wonderful, big, white guitar I carried around (played a bit :)) and dearly loved, was too big for me. It was sad to be letting her go. Brian Vayu immediately said “I’ll buy it”. It was a honor to pass her on to him. He may not have needed another guitar, but out of his kind heart he took her. It was an honor to know that she was in his loving hands.
Also, always remembering his leading and whispering “Shhhh. Shhhh. The Goddess is Alive.” I can still hear him.

  6. Beloved Vayu had such a beautiful and gentle spirit, filled with kindness and humor and a deep love of nature. He was also hard working and a wizard at scrabble!
